An incomplete cast copper alloy strap end of medieval date. The strap end is composite with a forked spacer, though the fork no longer remains. The main plate of the strap end is circular with a central circular perforation through which the remains of the back plate can be seen. The resulting frame is decorated with a double circumferential border around both the inner and outer edges and short curved double incised lines, similar to quotation marks, projecting from the two medial lines. An elaborate acorn knop with cross hatched decoration projects from the outer edge of the strap end opposite which the worn and broken remains of the forked spacer can be seen. On the reverse the back plate is incomplete and worn.
The metal has a mid orangey-brown patina and is slightly worn. The strap end is 42.5mm long, 30.9mm in diameter, 2.7mm thick and weighs 10.9g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Egan, p.140 - 141, figs 91 & 92.
