A complete cast lead bag seal of modern date. The seal is circular in plan with a sub-rectangular cross section and is comprised of a single disc of metal which is perforated by two holes running across its diameter. The hole would have been for wire or textile ligatures which were used to secure a bag.
The seal is of G&T Earle Limited; pelican cement manufacturers and ship owners from Hull.
Both sides are stamped with a centralpelican feeding its chicks with blood from its breast, a medieval motif representing Christ but here adopted as a trademark, surrounded by the legend G&T EARLE LIMITED HULL. This is in turn surrounded by a second circumferential legend most of which is now illegible. All that remains of this text is the word "BRAND" on one side of the seal.
The metal is a mid greyish-white colour and is worn. The seal is 22.5mm in diameter, 4.4mm thick and weighs 10g.
