Unique ID: IOW-D6E907

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped annular buckle frame (c. 1400-c. 1500 AD).
The frame is convex at the front and flat at the rear. It is divided centrally by a narrowed bar creating two loops. Each loop is 'D'-shaped in plan and similar in size. There is no indication of a pin-rest. There are two oblique trapezoid projections on one outside edge. These are convex at the front and flat at the rear. The central bar is incomplete. The pin is missing.
This buckle has a mid-green patina. However some of the surface has exfoliated.
36.29 x 27.63 x 1.52mm. Weight: 2.82g.
Similar buckles with projections have been dated c. 1400-1500 (Whitehead 1996: 46, refs: 267, 268).
Similar buckles have been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. For example, see finds: IOW-04F1E6; IOW-16BC08; NMS-4E5000; SUSS-D39167 and WILT-81B8B1.
