Cast lead-alloy object, possibly a counter-weight of a dagger or sword dating from the late medieval, post-medieval or early modern period, that is c. AD1400-1800. The object seems complete and is undecorated. It is roughly oval-shaped and it is hollow with a thick outer shell and a moulded cross on the inside - possibly for aiding in attaching a hilt. The object resembles a sword or dagger pommel and it is suggested here that it may have been on the 'inside' of the pommel to act as a counterweight for the blade, that is, in order to make the sword or dagger balance well.
