SEAL

Unique ID: YORYM-DB5854

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete cast lead bag seal of post-medieval date. The seal is circular in plan with small holes running through its length. The seal is decorated on one side with crowned arms of three castles and on the reverse with a crowned "I" above a fleur-de-lis with one more to either side.
John Cherry states that the fleur-de-lis suggests a French origin for the object and Tours in France has three castles on its shield and a flourishing silk industry.
The seal is 16.6mm in diameter and 3mm thick.
