A post-Medieval cast lead-alloy knob in the form of a human male head (c. AD 1700-c. 1800).
This knob is probably from the lid of a tobacco holder.
The head appears to be tonsured and is tilted backwards slightly, as if looking upwards. The facial features are clear and prominent. The brow is heavy and large and the eyes are almond-shaped. The nose is relatively large and the mouth is formed by a simple groove. There is a short, integral shaft in the centre of the base, probably to attach the head on the centre of the lid.
The object is grey with traces of a buff patina.
