A large cast copper-alloy mount in the form of a bar mount. The mount features two bars of equal length emerging in line from a central openwork circle. The central circular perforation is 9.8mm in diameter. The circle is up to 15.1mm wide and is bevelled externally on the upper surface and internally on the lower (Th.: 5.9mm). Externally it is decorated with fine longitudinally and transversely incised lines to create cross-hatching. The bars are trapezoidal, expanding from 5.5 to 7.5mm (Th.: 3.85mm) and 6.4 to 8.1mm (Th.: 4.45mm) respectively, over 21.0 and 20.5mm. They are bevelled between the upper surface and the sides; the lower surface is flat. A copper-alloy rivet with domed domed head and hammered end to retain a rove survives in situ at the ends of the two bars. A medieval date is suggested for this object on the basis of mounts of similar form being used as dress accessories from the 12th century. However, this artefact is significantly larger than the largest of the strap mounts and may have had a different function; it is, though, comparable in size to a mount recorded on this database, ref. HAMP-5E28C8. The metal has an even dark-green patina with some traces of iron corrosion product. The lower surface bears fine diagonal file marks.
