A medieval gold finger-ring with a thin hoop, round in section, and a circular bezel containing a dark red stone, identified by Raman spectroscopy as a garnet. The hoop widens slightly towards the bezel with raised shoulders on either side.
The finger-ring dates from the thirteenth or early fourteenth century.
Dimensions: maximum diameter of hoop 20mm, height including bezel 21 mm.
Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
