A copper alloy Early Medieval strap end dating from the late 8th to early 10th century. It is a Thomas Class A type 2 strap end, a type characterised by curvilinear or geometric patterns, and noted to dominate the cheaper end of the strap end market.

The strap end is cast from one sheet of copper but is split at one end to allow insertion of the strap. The back plate is missing and the upper plate is worn very thin. The strap end is a pointed oval in plan tapering to a flat-nosed zoomorphic terminal. The body of the strap end is separated into three panels of decoration; the zoomorphic snout terminal with large comma shaped ears, the central decorative panel containing a worn curvilinear design, and the trilobate palmette decoration round the two rivet holes at the open end. The end of the strap end is damaged and the rivet holes are missing. The reverse of the strap is plain and undecorated. See numbers 5-7 on page 3 of FRG Datasheet 32 by Gabor Thomas. The metal has a brown patina.
