A complete copper-alloy worn horse harness pendant. This pendant is flat and shield shaped and measures 38mm in length and 23mm in width. The suspension loop is set at 90 degrees to the plane of the pendant and is incomplete, its tip is missing due to an old break. The front face of the pendant is decorated with sable (black) a fess (a broad horizontal band drawn across the centre of the shield) between two chevrons (issuing from the base of the shield, shaped like an inverted 'V') Or (gold). This design is attributed to Robert Baynard, of Great Hautbois, Norfolk, 1290, who was summoned against the Scots in 1298, or his son Robert who died 1330. An identical design and pendant has been discovered in East Walton, Norfolk (Ashley 2002, 13 AND 46, Fig 13).
