Material found out of grid
Three body sherds from a medieval cooking vessel (1150-1400). They have a black fabric with some oxidation in the core. The fabric is hard with quartz and mica inclusions. On the largest sherd there is evidence of iron corrosion (possibly iron stone). All the sherds appear to have the same thickness, fabric and colour and therefore it is possible that they are from the same vessel. The fabric of the vessel also looks burned - possibly suggesting it had been in an uncontrolled fire prior to deposition.
The largest sherd measures 50.7mm in length, 37.9 mm in width, 6.3 mm in thickness and weighs 20 grams.
The smallest sherd measures 19.1 mm in length, 15.6 mm in width, 6.1 mm in thickness and weighs 2.4 grams.
The bulk weight is 25.7 grams.
