Roman copper alloy sitting bird brooch. It shows a heavily stylised duck like bird with a small head and circular recesses for eyes and a pointed beak. The body is triangular, with a semi-circular sectioned and tapering tail. The brooch is solid with a flat underside to which is attached a single loop, positioned under the birds fore body. Under the birds tail are the remains of two small loops, presumably to hold a spring bar with the loop acting as a catch plate? The bird is undecorated apart from traces of silvering all over its body. It is 30mm long, 24mm wide and 13mm deep. The object is in fair condition and weighs 10.36g.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
