A silver open-frame brooch, circular in plan, with attached pin. The upper surface of the thin-sectioned frame is decorated with a series of moulded crescents, aligned end to end. The pin has been looped around a constriction in the frame. It has a wider collar at the loop end and is of D-shaped section, the sides gradually converging towards the point.
No exact parallel could be found for this piece; however, open-frame brooches are reasonably common Medieval finds. In terms of age, and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal, it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
