A fragment of a cast copper alloy later Iron Age or early Roman bow brooch of Birdlip type. What survives is the upper part and a fragment of the bow. The fragment includes the prominent 'beak' as well as the dished housing for the spring. Behind the housing is a prominent collar and a wide rounded groove. A series of notches decorates a semi-circular 'plate' above the beak.
Notes:
Dating to between c. 30 BC and 60 AD, the Birdlip, or 'beaked bow' brooch is thought to be a British variant on the continental Flugelfibeln brooch.
