A Post Medieval copper alloy knife end cap, with zoomorphic terminal, dating to the 16th century. There is a slot in the base of the end cap to receive the scale tang of the knife. Iron corrosion fills this slot. The end cap has been decoratively cast to form a three-dimensional beast's head with open mouth and projecting tongue. There are two circular depressions to depict the eyes then there are radiating grooves extending from the brow, down the back of the head and neck.
Similar zoomorphic terminals are published on the database e.g.HESH-819F63 and HESH-81AF11, although there are slight variations in the detail of the beast.
