A complete Medieval to Post-Medieval rivet, circa AD1100 - 1700. The rivet has been made from a lozenge shaped piece of thin copper alloy sheet. The ends have been turned inwards, and then at its mid-point turned back and then back and under at the tips. The rivet measures 27.9mm in length, has a width of 13.4mm, a thickness of 2.6mm and weighs 2.4g. There are traces of a black substance on top of the green patina, which may have been due to the rivets exposure to smoke/fire in antiquity. The existing metalwork is in fair condition.
Further examples of this type of rivet may be found on the Database, SOM-6B7612, DENO-E8A895, and SOM-F2BFF7.
