A copper-alloy ring of uncertain purpose. This ring might be a finger-ring or alternatively a decorative ferrule from an umbrella, walking stick or riding crop. This artefact is of late 18th to 20th century in date.
Weight is 1.69g, diameter is 20.38mm, width of band is 3.52mm and thickness of band is 1.39mm. The band is circular in plan and has a 'D' shaped cross-section. The soldered join in the band is well formed and can only be seen if the artefact is being looked at carefully. The convex upper surface of the band is decorated with slight incised lines that form a design suggesting a foliate pattern interspersed between each with a single pellet. It is likely that the surface of the band was silvered as darker patches survive on the outer surface. If the band was not silvered then some other substance has been applied either as part of the original design or later either intensionally or incidentally.
