A copper alloy Roman finger ring dating from the 2nd to early 3rd century. It is complete and has a circular bezel which is stepped so it is raised in the centre. Each shoulder is constricted in two places with the remaining wide areas decorated with a transverse groove in each section. Two further transverse grooves mark the start of the shoulder on each side. The upper hoop is rectangular in section, tapering to a D shaped oval at the back of the hoop. The patina is a dull grey and very smooth, probably suggesting a high white metal content. Small areas of green corrosion indicate that the ring is not made of silver, but it may have had a white metal coating. Compare SF-708C26.
