Copper alloy length 67mm, width 14mm, thickness 3mm, weight 12.50g. This is a log rectangular strip with trefoil terminals, the main body has a line of four ring and dots all held within an incised linear border, with a triple incised line at the mid point. There are the remains of two rivet holes, both with copper alloy rivets still in place.
This component originally formed one edge of the box into which the 'snuff' (trimmed wick) would have dropped during trimming with a scissors-type candle snuffer. The scar on the reverse comes from the rest of the box, to which this side may have been attached using solder, with rivets to increase the object's strength.
