Incomplete and worn cast copper alloy Roman umbonate brooch. The brooch is sub-circular in form with a domed central boss and hollow reverse. The domed boss is decorated with a roundel design of enamel filled cells. The outer ring consists of blue triangular cells and there is an inner ring of samller red triangular cells. The remains of the hinged pin fittings survive on the rear but the pin is missing.
Brooches of this type are typically dated AD. c.100-250.
