A copper alloy Roman brooch; a T shaped brooch dating from 43 - 200 AD, of which only the upper bow survives. The wings are long and tubular. They are decorated with two incised bands at each end. They hold a copper alloy axis bar and a slot is provided for the copper alloy pin of which only a fragment of the head survives. The bow is very thin, but wide at the top. It steps inwards half way along the surviving length, and tapers further. It is decorated with vertical moulded ridges and grooves. The reverse is concave. The breaks are patinated and the brooch has a dark green patina except on one wing where the inside is revealed and appears to be full of bright cream and red streaked clay or other concretion.
