Cut sheet copper alloy shoe or clog clasp (male fitting), which would have been used with a similar hasp (female fitting) to secure a wooden shoe (overshoe) to the foot. The clasp is rectangular with a small incomplete sub-rectangular projection (hook) on one edge and an irregular lozenge shaped projection at the other. The small hook is abraded and incomplete; at the opposite end, the projection is broadly shaped like an anchor and was used to secure the clasp to the fabric. The surface of the hasp has worn away so that it is difficult to make out any decoration. The remains of a series of inetrlocking C shaped ribs can be seen in certain lights. Bailey (1992) illustrates a similar examples on page 17, which is dated to the 18th and 19th centuries
The brooch measures 32.4mm length, is 14.6mm width is 1.3mm thick and weighs 1.55 grams.
