A lead alloy spindle whorl of probably Medieval date. It is plano-convex with a prominent median ridge. It is decorated on both faces with raised radial lines divided by groups of pellets. The large central perforation is 10.9mm diameter and there is a cavity in the side wall. The whorl is patinated to a white colour. Whorls with this design are usually attributed to the Medieval period, but spindle whorls are notoriously difficult to date.
