A Roman Period, copper alloy disc brooch; 24.72mm in length, 14.51mm wide and 7.44mm thick. The brooch weighs 4.59g. The brooch is similar to no.1207 in fig. 223 of Hatatt's Visual Catalogue and is empty of enamel.
The brooch is oval in shape and rectangular in section, and consists of an oval plate with a raised oval border in its centre, which would have held a filling.
The reverse of the brooch is flat except for the copper alloy catch plate which runs a third of the way in, and the copper alloy spring showing three coils and surrounded by iron staining. The two are located at the furthest points from the centre.
