A cast copper alloy casket key dating from AD1100-1400. It has a circular bow with a flat collar below and a hollow shank of oval section. The bit is a rectangular tab with a wide cleft in the leading edge. A small part of the bit and the end of the shaft have broken away and are missing. The key displays a patchy, light green patina. It is 35.5mm long, 14.4mm long and 3.3mm thick. It weighs 3.07gm.
Similar examples are illustrated in Egan, 1998, The Medieval Household, pages 111-112, and an almost identical key can be found on the database at reference SWYOR-546ED1.
