An uninscribed Iron Age silver unit, c. 60-20 BC. This type is generally attributed to the Atrebates people in the South of England. The obverse depicts a helmeted head facing right, with lentoid eye and boss on chin; the reverse depicts a horse galloping right with a pellet on chest and on rump, wheel below and hidden face above. Cf. ABC 662; VA 264; BMC 583-92. Listed as the 'Ashdown Forest Helmet' type and 'very rare' in Ancient British Coinage.
