An cast copper alloy Dolphin type brooch with hinge mechanism. 1st century AD. There is some active corrosion obscuring the decorative detail. The pin is broken at 18mm and is still connected to the axis bar which is enclosed within the wings, which are rolled around the bar. The wings are 32mm wide. The bow is D-shaped in section and 10mm wide at the head before tapering to a point and small foot.The surviving decoration shows transverse ribs on the wings and zig-zag pattern bordering a central vertical rib along the bow.
