A moulded or cast lead alloy token, or tally, possibly for gaming. The token is bifacial; one side depicts what may be a crude representation of a stag's head, surrounded by a border of short radiating lines, which in turn is surrounded by an outer border of inward pointing triangles. The reverse has a small raised central pellet which is surrounded by groups of alternating radiating lines, reminiscent of windmill sails or wheel spokes, set at opposing angles. It is unclear exactly what the aretfacts were used for, and indeed dating them is also quite subjective, but assuming the feature in the centre of the obverse is a stag, similar depictions can be found on 13th century seal matrices. Later lead tokens become more plain by the 16th and 17th century, and those depicting images are often uniface, therefore it is suggested here, based on the above, that this token dates from the medieval period, more specifically 13th-16th century AD.
