Two Medieval folding strap clasp frames which have been miscast and discarded and so are joined together by metal that escaped from the mould. They date from the late 13th to 15th century, and many examples can be seen in Dress Accessories starting on page 116. The frames are sub rectangular with convex sides and recessed bars at each end. They do not appear to have the transverse ridges on the sides that many finished examples have. It is not clear why the casting sprue joining the two frames together was not trimmed off and the frames finished. An example of a finished Strap clasp is SOM-01EE42.
This casting debris is evidence that folding strap clasps were being made in the York Area. They can be compared to other finds of unfinished objects from the outskirts of York: SWYOR-76F57 and SWYOR-76E7F8.
