STRAP END

Unique ID: SF-3B9CD6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Strap-end made from a single piece of copper alloy. The attachment end has two copper-alloy rivets which protrude from the surface; the end is shaped slightly around them. A shallow groove runs down the length of the strap-end from between the two rivets. The sides of the strap-end are shaped; it tapers slightly, and then has a pair of projections on each side at the terminal end. Between these projections is a third rivet, this time flush with the surface and well concealed; the groove is probably interrupted by this rivet, although as the surface is worn and corroded it is hard to be sure. The terminal end may be broken; although it is symmetrical and the end is worn, the strap-end as it stands is an unusual short shape. From the shape of the projections and the well-concealed rivet, this strap-end must be 14th-century.
