A cast copper-alloy fantail brooch of the later 1st-early 2nd century.
The brooch is largely complete, but missing the hinged pin and the pinrest of the catchplate. The rectangular arms retain the cast integral cylindrical lugs for the hinged pin and axle on the reverse, with an integral headloop on the top edge of the head. The bow has two moulded grooves down its length, creating a slightly broader central band flanked by a narrow band to each side. A bend in the lower half of the bow has distored the profile slightly. The triangular foot has a large triangular cell containing a double trumpet motif with an attached lozenge at the top of the motif. No enamel remains in the cell. The reverse of the foot has a catchplate running down its length.
