A copper-alloy Colchester-derivative brooch of double-pierced lug type of Roman (mid to late 1st/early 2nd century) date.
The wings consist of a horizontal half-cylinder and are undecorated. The spring and pin are complete, albeit bent in the case of the latter. The axis bar is contained within a perforated lug at the centre of the head's underside, while a second such lug, located directly above, contains the external chord. The spring has six coils and the pin extends from just left of centre. At the top of the bow, the uppermost lug extends into a ridge, which crosses a flat area. The slightly bent bow is of roughly semicircular section, tapering towards the foot. The top half of the bow is decorated by a vertical groove flanked by two columns of transverse incisions. The catchplate is of openwork form, with an inverted triangular perforation and a rolled outer side.
