FINGER RING

Unique ID: WILT-477F46

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete Roman (AD 43 - 410) copper alloy finger-ring, missing most of the hoop. It measures 19.61x11.47mm and weighs 4.6g. The surviving bit of hoop is a little squashed.

The oval area for the setting comprises the entire bezel and measures 16.70x10.52x0.64mm and retains traces of a white substance and three deep grooves, presumably keying for the setting. A pair of grooves flanks the area on the outside.

The hoop is D-shaped in section at the break (2.67x1.57mm). The shoulders extend from the hoop into the bezel and are c.6mm wide.
