STRAP FITTING

Unique ID: SUR-329DB4

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper alloy and gilded post medieval buckle or perhaps a sliding strap fitting. The fitting is broken and distorted; both edges are tongue-shaped and each bears a lion's head looking inward. The back is hollow and there is additional engraved decoration.

Similar strap fittings have been recorded and are assumed to have a military, perhaps naval, origin (cf SUR-3FAC35 and WILT-925D83 among others).
