An incomplete cast copper alloy openwork mount, of Early Post Medieval dating (16th to 18th Centuries AD).
Approximately 75% of the mount is present. It was probably originally symmetrical in design. It consists of a convex openwork lozenge at the centre, with scalloped external edges. The remnants of a probable fleur de lys / lis are present at the base, and an annulet at the top of the mount. The reverse is plain and undecorated. One integrally cast attachment spike with a circular cross section, extends from the rear of the mount. This spike has a lateral bend at the halfway point.
The mount is a mid green to grey colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
The mount measures 22.54mm in length, 11.13mm wide and 4.73mm thick. It weighs 4.7 grams.
