A cast copper-alloy trumpet brooch of the early Roman period, c. 75-200.
The brooch is largely complete, missing only its hinged pin. The head is stepped from a disc to the 'bell' of the trumpet, and the base of a shank or loop can be found in the centre of the upper edge of the head. The reverse of the head has two long cylindrical lugs, cast integral, holding the axel in place for the hinged pin. The bow has confronted acanthus decoration with a disc in between, flanked above and below by a double-moulded collar, all in halfround. The bow tapers to a discoidal foot, with the catchplate emerging out of the reverse of the bow beneath the acanthus decoration. This, too, is complete, except for a portion of the hooked pinrest that is missing.
