An incomplete Late Iron Age to Early Roman cast copper-alloy Rosette/Thistle type brooch (c 25-c. 60 AD).
At the top, part of the horizontal spring encasement remains, the spring and pin, as well as the foot is lost. The almost complete encasement, 20.92mm in width, is convex at the front and concave at the rear for the spring mechanism (now missing). The bow is strongly arched in side profile and 'D'-shaped in cross-section. At the front, it tapers from the encasement to about mid-way along its length (width: 9.04mm) and then flares to the remains of a sub-circular plate. The plate is flat at the rear. At the centre of the lower part of the bow there are the remains of a vertical flute. There may have been other flutes that have been lost due to corrosion.
This brooch has no patina and is corroded overall with abraded breaks. The corrosion is active in some areas.
