An incomplete Late Iron Age to Early Roman cast-copper Colchester one-piece brooch (AD 20-80).
The spring and most of the catch-plate are missing.
The diminutive wings, which are flat and rectangular in shape, have an overall width of 13.84mm. These are plain at the front. To the rear of the wings, a portion of the spring chord is secured by a forward-facing hook which protrudes over the head of the brooch. Three coils survive on one side around the corroded iron axis bar. The plain bow projects forwards at about 90° before plunging steeply downwards. It is curved in side profile and oval in cross-section tapering consistently from the head to the pointed foot. A small part of the catch-plate survives.
A patina has not survived and the surfaces a generally drab brown.
