Roman copper alloy dolphin brooch, 42mm long, 35mm wide and 14mm thick. The brooch is in fair condition and weighs 8.64grams. The brooch consists of circular sectioned wings which have a narrow opening at the rear with a large central cavity, presumably for a short spring? now missing. The wings are highly decorated each one beginning with a rounded raised vertical band flanked on each side by a narrower one, each of these has transverse grooves incised into its entire surface. next is a recessed area with a further set of the raised bands. The circular sectioned bow has a central raised line with transverse grooves along its length. Each side of the bow is decorated with three raised curved motifs flanked by curved recesses. These are separated by two raised transverse lines. The catch plate remains only as a scar, but takes up most of the bows length and has signs of having circular voids.
