Copper-alloy disc-on-pin brooch of Medieval date, c. 1300-1500.
The brooch has a simple circular or annular frame, circular in section, with a largely complete decorated pin.
The pin has a backward bent strip forming the simple looped hinge and a pointed tip, both of which are rectangular in section. The body of the pin, however, is a large lozengiform plate or disc decorated with five studs. The studs are mushroom-shaped in section and have been riveted onto the plate. A stud occupies each corner of the plate with one in the centre. The plate and studs bear traces of gilding. Pin dimensions: 6.18 mm thick; 33.50mm length; plate width: 19.59mm.
The pin loop appears to be designed for a larger frame or has been distorted in order to fit a new one (the frame can easily be slid out from the loop).
