A Spanish colonial silver eight reales or 'piece of 8' dating to between 1651 and 1773. The obverse depicts a simple shield with lions and the reverse is decorated with castles in four quadrants. This design indicates that the coin is from Bogota, Cartagena or the one transitional coins from Potosi. More information on Spanish colonial coinage is available from www.newworldtreasures.com.
