A post-Medieval cast copper-alloy asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame (c. 1575-c. 1700 AD).
This buckle frame is moulded at the front and flat at the rear. One loop of the buckle has a rounded outer edge with two projecting lobed knops, one at each corner. The other loop is trapezoidal with five equally-spaced transverse notches on the outer edge which form six lobed knops. The upper face is bevelled both internally and externally to the loops. The bar is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear. Iron staining on the bar indicates that the missing pin was probably made of iron.
24.1 x 19.6 x 2.3mm. Weight: 2.49g.
This buckle has traces of tinning at the front and back. Similar buckles have been dated c. 1575-c. 1700 (Whitehead 1996: 92, refs: 575-577).
