A silver gilt plaque of probable Post-Medieval date.
The plaque is sub-rectangular in plan with rounded upper-corners. The plaque depicts Mary holding the body of Christ, with the cross on the mount in the background. There is also some openwork.
Notes:
Stylistically this plaque appears to be of a sixteenth century (post reformation?) date and may be a recusant object given its find spot.
Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
