A copper alloy Roman brooch fragment. It is part of a crossbow (light) type, which has been bent out of shape, probably as the result of plough damage. The wings are incomplete, with the case being circular and traces of a central bar just visible round which four or five surviving coils can be seen. The sides and head knobs are missing. The bow is out of shape, curved round to form a circle, and is circular in section, with some faceting. It measures 4.1mm in thickness at the top, tapering to 2.5mm lower down. There is a projecting flange at the base of the bow, above the foot. The catchplate is large and tubular, measuring 20.7mm in length and 7.2mm in width. The brooch measures 15mm in surviving width across the wings, 39.28mm in length (bent) and weighs 5.79g.
