An incomplete cast copper alloy stylised Roman dragonesque brooch dating from about 75-175 AD. The brooch is reverse S-shaped in plan and D-shaped in section with an expanded waist. Both animal heads remain and each is pointed oval in plan with a scroll-shaped nose. The heads have a circular aperture through them and one is attached to the body by a bridge of copper alloy, leaving another circular hole between the head and the body. This is where the pin would have attached, but it is now missing. The body of the brooch and the ears are decorated with incised lines. The back of the brooch is flat and smooth and there is a slight concavity along the body. The brooch has a medium-light green patina. Please compare to PAS record IDs: LIN-106F71, YORYM-D15208 and SWYOR-2877A8. See Hattatt's (2000) Visual Catalogue, page 351, figure 210.
