Lead weight. Cast plano-convex disc. A sunken central patch of diameter 10.5mm on the upper convex surface may show where an embedded object has been lost. Weights with embedded objects are associated with Viking Age occupation. The mass may indicate an approximate value of twice twenty pennyweight (2 x 29.2gms) or two ounces according to the Tower weight system, introduced between 1088 and 1158, but used mainly for coins and bread. Suggested date: Medieval, 1100-1300.
Diameter: 37.3mm, Thickness: 6.9mm, Weight: 60.08gms.
