Mount. Cast rectangular plate with three rivet holes at one end; two occupied by rivets of diameter 1.8mm which are clenched over at the back of the plate; the central hole appears countersunk, of diameter 2mm, and perhaps was never used. The mid point of the plate is ridged, and its other end is also thickened with a gutter adjacent to this on the back. Decoration comprises incised triangles either side of the central ridge, filled with groups of two or three round or oval punchmarks. An identification as a fragment from scale armour was offered by the finder, on the grounds that groove and gutter might permit articulation, but Dr Kevin Leahy kindly opines the object is too thick to admit this. Suggested date: Medieval, 1350-1450.
