A cast copper alloy, single loop, medieval buckle, dating from 1350-1450AD. The frame is of an elongated D shape and has a hemispherical knop with a raised collar in the centre of the outer edge. The strap bar is narrowed and offset. A flat, copper alloy pin remains in place; the underside of this pin has a lateral groove along its length. The buckle has a patchy, dark green patina. It is 30mm long, 19.1mm wide and 8.2mm thick. It weighs 4.49gm.
Similar buckles are illustrated in Griffiths, Philpott and Egan, 2007, Meols: The Archaeology of the North Wirral Coast, plate 15, numbers 622, 625 and 626.
