Silver spoon. Cast spoon fragment, comprising a leaf shaped bowl with a short oval rib below the bowl which continues as a flat and narrow stem. The spoon bowl has been hammered flat, and most of the stem has been removed by forceful twisting which has left a thin tapered and twisted stub attached to the bowl. The material is now very thin, and this may be the result of wear in use rather than the hammering of the object, as silver spoons can acquire sharp edges with prolonged use. Pewter spoons from London generally exhibit broader bowls, so this example is probably later. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1800.
