A cast, copper alloy Roman brooch of the Dolphin type, dating from AD43-65. Both bow and wings are plain except for a narrow transverse groove at the end of each wing and a further narrow groove down each side of the bow. The wings are cylindrical, with a seam running along the back. A copper alloy axis bar is held in the wings, and there is a slot for the hinged pin, which is missing. There is no foot, the bow just tapering to a point. The catch plate survives. The brooch has a dark green patina. It is 34.5mm long, 21.4mm wide and 14.5mm thick. It weighs 5.87gm.
A similar brooch is illustrated in Hattat, 2000, A Visual Catalogue of Ancient Brooches, figure 158, number 20.
